The dma_fence.error field (formerly known as dma_fence.status) is an optional field that may be set by drivers before calling dma_fence_signal(). The field can be used to indicate that the fence was completed in err rather than with success, and is visible to other consumers of the fence and to userspace via sync_file. This patch renames the field from status to error so that its meaning is hopefully more clear (and distinct from dma_fence_get_status() which is a composite between the error state and signal state) and adds a helper that validates the preconditions of when it is suitable to adjust the error field. Linux kernel ============ This file was moved to Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst Please notice that there are several guides for kernel developers and users. These guides can be rendered in a number of formats, like HTML and PDF. In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or ``make pdfdocs``. There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory, several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation. See Documentation/00-INDEX for a list of what is contained in each file. Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
