8e6c0332d5 [CIFS] fix oops in cifs_lookup during net boot
Fixes bugzilla.kernel.org bug number 14641

Lookup called during network boot (network root filesystem
for diskless workstation) has case where nd is null in
lookup. This patch fixes that in cifs_lookup.

(Shirish noted that 2.6.30 and 2.6.31 stable need the same check)

0109d7e614 SLOW_WORK: Fix CIFS to pass THIS_MODULE to slow_work_register_user()
As of the patch:

SLOW_WORK: Wait for outstanding work items belonging to a module to clear

Wait for outstanding slow work items belonging to a module to clear
when unregistering that module as a user of the facility. This
prevents the put_ref code of a work item from being taken away before
	it returns.

slow_work_register_user() takes a module pointer as an argument. CIFS must now
pass THIS_MODULE as that argument, lest the following error be observed:

	fs/cifs/cifsfs.c: In function 'init_cifs':
fs/cifs/cifsfs.c:1040: error: too few arguments to function 'slow_work_register_user'

f534dc9943 cifs: clear server inode number flag while autodisabling
Fix the commit ec06aedd44 that intended to turn off querying for server inode
numbers when server doesn't consistently support inode numbers. Presumably
the commit didn't actually clear the CIFS_MOUNT_SERVER_INUM flag, perhaps a
typo.

f475f67754 cifs: don't use CIFSGetSrvInodeNumber in is_path_accessible
Because it's lighter weight, CIFS tries to use CIFSGetSrvInodeNumber to
verify the accessibility of the root inode and then falls back to doing a
full QPathInfo if that fails with -EOPNOTSUPP. I have at least a report
of a server that returns NT_STATUS_INTERNAL_ERROR rather than something
that translates to EOPNOTSUPP.

Rather than trying to be clever with that call, just have
is_path_accessible do a normal QPathInfo. That call is widely
supported and it shouldn't increase the overhead significantly.

ec06aedd44 cifs: clean up handling when server doesn't consistently support inode numbers
It's possible that a server will return a valid FileID when we query the
FILE_INTERNAL_INFO for the root inode, but then zeroed out inode numbers
when we do a FindFile with an infolevel of
SMB_FIND_FILE_ID_FULL_DIR_INFO.

In this situation turn off querying for server inode numbers, generate a
warning for the user and just generate an inode number using iunique.
Once we generate any inode number with iunique we can no longer use any
server inode numbers or we risk collisions, so ensure that we don't do
that in cifs_get_inode_info either.

The reason of this bug is that the error handling code of

calls kfree() when corresponding kmalloc() failed.
(The kmalloc() is called by extract_hostname().)

3321b791b2 cifs: fix locking and list handling code in cifs_open and its helper
The patch to remove cifs_init_private introduced a locking imbalance. It
didn't remove the leftover list addition code and the unlocking in that
function. cifs_new_fileinfo does the list addition now, so there should
be no need to do it outside of that function.

pCifsInode will never be NULL, so we don't need to check for that. This
patch also gets rid of the ugly locking and unlocking across function
calls.

3bc303c254 cifs: convert oplock breaks to use slow_work facility (try #4)
This is the fourth respin of the patch to convert oplock breaks to
use the slow_work facility.

A customer of ours was testing a backport of one of the earlier
patchsets, and hit a "Busy inodes after umount..." problem. An oplock
break job had raced with a umount, and the superblock got torn down and
its memory reused. When the oplock break job tried to dereference the
inode->i_sb, the kernel oopsed.

This patchset has the oplock break job hold an inode and vfsmount
reference until the oplock break completes. With this, there should be
no need to take a tcon reference (the vfsmount implicitly holds one
already).

Currently, when an oplock break comes in there's a chance that the
oplock break job won't occur if the allocation of the oplock_q_entry
fails. There are also some rather nasty races in the allocation and
handling these structs.

Rather than allocating oplock queue entries when an oplock break comes
in, add a few extra fields to the cifsFileInfo struct. Get rid of the
dedicated cifs_oplock_thread as well and queue the oplock break job to
the slow_work thread pool.

This approach also has the advantage that the oplock break jobs can
potentially run in parallel rather than be serialized like they are
today.

590a3fe0e1 cifs: fix oplock request handling in posix codepath
cifs_posix_open takes a "poplock" argument that's intended to be used in
the actual posix open call to set the "Flags" field. It ignores this
value however and declares an "oplock" parameter on the stack that it
passes uninitialized to the CIFSPOSIXOpen function. Not only does this
mean that the oplock request flags are bogus, but the result that's
expected to be in that variable is unchanged.

Fix this, and also clean up the type of the oplock parameter used. Since
it's expected to be __u32, we should use that everywhere and not
implicitly cast it from a signed type.

bdb97adcdf PATCH] cifs: fix broken mounts when a SSH tunnel is used (try #4)
One more try..

It seems there is a regression that got introduced while Jeff fixed
all the mount/umount races. While attempting to find whether a tcp
session is already existing, we were not checking whether the "port"
used are the same. When a second mount is attempted with a different
"port=" option, it is being ignored. Because of this the cifs mounts
that uses a SSH tunnel appears to be broken.

Steps to reproduce:

1. create 2 shares
# SSH Tunnel a SMB session
2. ssh -f -L 6111:127.0.0.1:445 root@localhost "sleep 86400"
3. ssh -f -L 6222:127.0.0.1:445 root@localhost "sleep 86400"
4. tcpdump -i lo 6111 &
5. mkdir -p /mnt/mnt1
6. mkdir -p /mnt/mnt2
7. mount.cifs //localhost/a /mnt/mnt1 -o username=guest,ip=127.0.0.1,port=6111
#(shows tcpdump activity on port 6111)
8. mount.cifs //localhost/b /mnt/mnt2 -o username=guest,ip=127.0.0.1,port=6222
#(shows tcpdump activity only on port 6111 and not on 6222

Fix by adding a check to compare the port _only_ if the user tries to
override the tcp port with "port=" option, before deciding that an
existing tcp session is found. Also, clean up a bit by replacing
if-else if by a switch statment while at it as suggested by Jeff.

9b9d6b2434 cifs: reinstate original behavior when uid=/gid= options are specified
This patch fixes the regression reported here:

http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13861

commit 4ae1507f6d changed the default
behavior when the uid= or gid= option was specified for a mount. The
existing behavior was to always clobber the ownership information
provided by the server when these options were specified. The above
commit changed this behavior so that these options simply provided
defaults when the server did not provide this information (unless
"forceuid" or "forcegid" were specified)

This patch reverts this change so that the default behavior is restored.
It also adds "noforceuid" and "noforcegid" options to make it so that
ownership information from the server is preserved, even when the mount
has uid= or gid= options specified.

It also adds a couple of printk notices that pop up when forceuid or
forcegid options are specified without a uid= or gid= option.

03aa3a49ad cifs: fix sb->s_maxbytes so that it casts properly to a signed value
This off-by-one bug causes sendfile() to not work properly. When a task
calls sendfile() on a file on a CIFS filesystem, the syscall returns -1
and sets errno to EOVERFLOW.

do_sendfile uses s_maxbytes to verify the returned offset of the file.
The problem there is that this value is cast to a signed value (loff_t).
When this is done on the s_maxbytes value that cifs uses, it becomes
negative and the comparisons against it fail.

Even though s_maxbytes is an unsigned value, it seems that it's not OK
to set it in such a way that it'll end up negative when it's cast to a
signed value. These casts happen in other codepaths besides sendfile
too, but the VFS is a little hard to follow in this area and I can't
be sure if there are other bugs that this will fix.

It's not clear to me why s_maxbytes isn't just declared as loff_t in the
first place, but either way we still need to fix these values to make
sendfile work properly. This is also an opportunity to replace the magic
bit-shift values here with the standard #defines for this.

This fixes the reproducer program I have that does a sendfile and
will probably also fix the situation where apache is serving from a
CIFS share.

cc0bad7552 cifs: add new cifs_iget function and convert unix codepath to use it
cifs: add new cifs_iget function and convert unix codepath to use it

In order to unify some codepaths, introduce a common cifs_fattr struct
for storing inode attributes. The different codepaths (unix, legacy,
normal, etc...) can fill out this struct with inode info. It can then be
passed as an arg to a common set of routines to get and update inodes.

Add a new cifs_iget function that uses iget5_locked to identify inodes.
This will compare inodes based on the uniqueid value in a cifs_fattr
struct.

Rather than filling out an already-created inode, have
cifs_get_inode_info_unix instead fill out cifs_fattr and hand that off
to cifs_iget. cifs_iget can then properly look for hardlinked inodes.

On the readdir side, add a new cifs_readdir_lookup function that spawns
populated dentries. Redefine FILE_UNIX_INFO so that it's basically a
FILE_UNIX_BASIC_INFO that has a few fields wrapped around it. This
allows us to more easily use the same function for filling out the fattr
as the non-readdir codepath.

With this, we should then have proper hardlink detection and can
eventually get rid of some nasty CIFS-specific hacks for handing them.

0f3bc09ee1 cifs: Fix incorrect return code being printed in cFYI messages
FreeXid() along with freeing Xid does add a cifsFYI debug message that
prints rc (return code) as well. In some code paths where we set/return
error code after calling FreeXid(), incorrect error code is being
printed when cifsFYI is enabled.

This could be misleading in few cases. For eg.
In cifs_open() if cifs_fill_filedata() returns a valid pointer to
cifsFileInfo, FreeXid() prints rc=-13 whereas 0 is actually being
returned. Fix this by setting rc before calling FreeXid().

Basically convert

FreeXid(xid);			rc = -ERR;
return -ERR;		=>	FreeXid(xid);
				return rc;

[Note that Christoph would like to replace the GetXid/FreeXid
calls, which are primarily used for debugging. This seems
like a good longer term goal, but although there is an
alternative tracing facility, there are no examples yet
available that I know of that we can use (yet) to
convert this cifs function entry/exit logging, and for
creating an identifier that we can use to correlate
all dmesg log entries for a particular vfs operation
(ie identify all log entries for a particular vfs
request to cifs: e.g. a particular close or read or write
or byte range lock call ... and just using the thread id
is harder). Eventually when a replacement
for this is available (e.g. when NFS switches over and various
samples to look at in other file systems) we can remove the
GetXid/FreeXid macro but in the meantime multiple people
use this run time configurable logging all the time
for debugging, and Suresh's patch fixes a problem
which made it harder to notice some low
memory problems in the log so it is worthwhile
to fix this problem until a better logging
approach is able to be used]

4ae1507f6d cifs: make overriding of ownership conditional on new mount options
We have a bit of a problem with the uid= option. The basic issue is that
it means too many things and has too many side-effects.

It's possible to allow an unprivileged user to mount a filesystem if the
user owns the mountpoint, /bin/mount is setuid root, and the mount is
set up in /etc/fstab with the "user" option.

When doing this though, /bin/mount automatically adds the "uid=" and
"gid=" options to the share. This is fortunate since the correct uid=
option is needed in order to tell the upcall what user's credcache to
use when generating the SPNEGO blob.

On a mount without unix extensions this is fine -- you generally will
want the files to be owned by the "owner" of the mount. The problem
comes in on a mount with unix extensions. With those enabled, the
uid/gid options cause the ownership of files to be overriden even though
the server is sending along the ownership info.

This means that it's not possible to have a mount by an unprivileged
user that shows the server's file ownership info. The result is also
inode permissions that have no reflection at all on the server. You
simply cannot separate ownership from the mode in this fashion.

This behavior also makes MultiuserMount option less usable. Once you
pass in the uid= option for a mount, then you can't use unix ownership
info and allow someone to share the mount.

While I'm not thrilled with it, the only solution I can see is to stop
making uid=/gid= force the overriding of ownership on mounts, and to add
new mount options that turn this behavior on.

50b64e3b77 cifs: fix IPv6 address length check
For IPv6 the userspace mount helper sends an address in the "ip="
option. This check fails if the length is > 35 characters. I have no
idea where the magic 35 character limit came from, but it's clearly not
enough for IPv6. Fix it by making it use the INET6_ADDRSTRLEN #define.

While we're at it, use the same #define for the address length in SPNEGO
upcalls.

f55ed1a83d cifs: tighten up default file_mode/dir_mode
The current default file mode is 02767 and dir mode is 0777. This is
extremely "loose". Given that CIFS is a single-user protocol, these
permissions allow anyone to use the mount -- in effect, giving anyone on
the machine access to the credentials used to mount the share.

Change this by making the default permissions restrict write access to
the default owner of the mount. Give read and execute permissions to
everyone else. These are the same permissions that VFAT mounts get by
default so there is some precedent here.

Note that this patch also removes the mandatory locking flags from the
default file_mode. After having looked at how these flags are used by
the kernel, I don't think that keeping them as the default offers any
real benefit. That flag combination makes it so that the kernel enforces
mandatory locking.

Since the server is going to do that for us anyway, I don't think we
want the client to enforce this by default on applications that just
want advisory locks. Anyone that does want this behavior can always
enable it by setting the file_mode appropriately.

There's no reason to limit the size of a symlink that we can read to

8db14ca125 [CIFS] Avoid open on possible directories since Samba now rejects them
Small change (mostly formatting) to limit lookup based open calls to
file create only.

After discussion yesteday on samba-technical about the posix lookup
regression, and looking at a problem with cifs posix open to one
particular Samba version, Jeff and JRA realized that Samba server's
behavior changed in this area (posix open behavior on files vs.
directories). To make this behavior consistent, JRA just made a
fix to Samba server to alter how it handles open of directories (now
returning the equivalent of EISDIR instead of success). Since we don't
know at lookup time whether the inode is a directory or file (and
thus whether posix open will succeed with most current Samba server),
this change avoids the posix open code on lookup open (just issues
posix open on creates). This gets the semantic benefits we want
(atomicity, posix byte range locks, improved write semantics on newly
created files) and file create still is fast, and we avoid the problem
that Jeff noticed yesterday with "openat" (and some open directory
calls) of non-cached directories to one version of Samba server, and
will work with future Samba versions (which include the fix jra just
pushed into Samba server). I confirmed this approach with jra
yesterday and with Shirish today.

Posix open is only called (at lookup time) for file create now.
For opens (rather than creates), because we do not know if it
is a file or directory yet, and current Samba no longer allows
us to do posix open on dirs, we could end up wasting an open call
on what turns out to be a dir. For file opens, we wait to call posix
open till cifs_open. It could be added here (lookup) in the future
but the performance tradeoff of the extra network request when EISDIR
or EACCES is returned would have to be weighed against the 50%
reduction in network traffic in the other paths.

This is the third respin of the patch posted yesterday to fix the error
handling in cifs_follow_symlink. It also includes a fix for a bogus NULL
pointer check in CIFSSMBQueryUnixSymLink that Jeff Moyer spotted.

It's possible for CIFSSMBQueryUnixSymLink to return without setting
target_path to a valid pointer. If that happens then the current value
to which we're initializing this pointer could cause an oops when it's
kfree'd.

This patch is a little more comprehensive than the last patches. It
reorganizes cifs_follow_link a bit for (hopefully) better readability.
It should also eliminate the uneeded allocation of full_path on servers
without unix extensions (assuming they can get to this point anyway, of
which I'm not convinced).

On a side note, I'm not sure I agree with the logic of enabling this
query even when unix extensions are disabled on the client. It seems
like that should disable this as well. But, changing that is outside the
scope of this fix, so I've left it alone for now.

f083def68f cifs: fix buffer size for tcon->nativeFileSystem field
The buffer for this was resized recently to fix a bug. It's still
possible however that a malicious server could overflow this field
by sending characters in it that are >2 bytes in the local charset.
Double the size of the buffer to account for this possibility.

Also get rid of some really strange and seemingly pointless NULL
termination. It's NULL terminating the string in the source buffer,

27b87fe52b cifs: fix unicode string area word alignment in session setup
The handling of unicode string area alignment is wrong.
decode_unicode_ssetup improperly assumes that it will always be preceded
by a pad byte. This isn't the case if the string area is already
word-aligned.

This problem, combined with the bad buffer sizing for the serverDomain
string can cause memory corruption. The bad alignment can make it so
that the alignment of the characters is off. This can make them
translate to characters that are greater than 2 bytes each. If this
happens we can overflow the allocation.

Fix this by fixing the alignment in CIFS_SessSetup instead so we can
verify it against the head of the response. Also, clean up the
workaround for improperly terminated strings by checking for a
odd-length unicode buffers and then forcibly terminating them.

Finally, resize the buffer for serverDomain. Now that we've fixed
the alignment, it's probably fine, but a malicious server could
overflow it.

A better solution for handling these strings is still needed, but
this should be a suitable bandaid.

fbec9ab952 cifs: vary timeout on writes past EOF based on offset (try #5)
This is the fourth version of this patch:

The first three generated a compiler warning asking for explicit curly
braces.

The first two didn't handle update the size correctly when writes that
didn't start at the eof were done.

The first patch also didn't update the size correctly when it explicitly
set via truncate().

This patch adds code to track the client's current understanding of the
size of the file on the server separate from the i_size, and then to use
this info to semi-intelligently set the timeout for writes past the EOF.

This helps prevent timeouts when trying to write large, sparse files on
windows servers.

We already flush all the dirty pages for an inode before doing
ATTR_SIZE and ATTR_MTIME changes. There's another problem though -- if
we change the mode so that the file becomes read-only then we may not

Fix this by just going back to flushing all the dirty data on any
setattr call. There are probably some cases that can be optimized out,
but I'm not sure they're worthwhile and we need to consider them more
carefully to make sure that we don't cause regressions if we have
to reconnect before writeback occurs.

99b7623380 proc 2/2: remove struct proc_dir_entry::owner
Setting ->owner as done currently (pde->owner = THIS_MODULE) is racy
as correctly noted at bug #12454. Someone can lookup entry with NULL
->owner, thus not pinning enything, and release it later resulting
in module refcount underflow.

We can keep ->owner and supply it at registration time like ->proc_fops
and ->data.

But this leaves ->owner as easy-manipulative field (just one C assignment)
and somebody will forget to unpin previous/pin current module when
switching ->owner. ->proc_fops is declared as "const" which should give
some thoughts.

->read_proc/->write_proc were just fixed to not require ->owner for
protection.

rmmod'ed directories will be empty and return "." and ".." -- no harm.
And directories with tricky enough readdir and lookup shouldn't be modular.
We definitely don't want such modular code.

Removing ->owner will also make PDE smaller.

So, let's nuke it.

Kudos to Jeff Layton for reminding about this, let's say, oversight.

a3ec947c85 vfs: simple_set_mnt() should return void
simple_set_mnt() is defined as returning 'int' but always returns 0.
Callers assume simple_set_mnt() never fails and don't properly cleanup if
it were to _ever_ fail. For instance, get_sb_single() and get_sb_nodev()
should:

        up_write(sb->s_unmount);
        deactivate_super(sb);

if simple_set_mnt() fails.

Since simple_set_mnt() never fails, would be cleaner if it did not
return anything.

be652445fd [CIFS] Add new nostrictsync cifs mount option to avoid slow SMB flush
If this mount option is set, when an application does an
fsync call then the cifs client does not send an SMB Flush
to the server (to force the server to write all dirty data
for this file immediately to disk), although cifs still sends
all dirty (cached) file data to the server and waits for the
server to respond to the write write. Since SMB Flush can be
very slow, and some servers may be reliable enough (to risk
delaying slightly flushing the data to disk on the server),
turning on this option may be useful to improve performance for
applications that fsync too much, at a small risk of server
crash. If this mount option is not set, by default cifs will
send an SMB flush request (and wait for a response) on every
fsync call.

b298f22355 [CIFS] Send SMB flush in cifs_fsync

This patch modifies the cifs_fsync implementation to restore the
fsync-behavior of smbfs by triggering SMB_COM_FLUSH after sending

c3b2a0c640 [CIFS] improve posix semantics of file create
Samba server added support for a new posix open/create/mkdir operation
a year or so ago, and we added support to cifs for mkdir to use it,
but had not added the corresponding code to file create.

The following patch helps improve the performance of the cifs create
path (to Samba and servers which support the cifs posix protocol
extensions). Using Connectathon basic test1, with 2000 files, the
performance improved about 15%, and also helped reduce network traffic
(17% fewer SMBs sent over the wire) due to saving a network round trip
for the SetPathInfo on every file create.

It should also help the semantics (and probably the performance) of
write (e.g. when posix byte range locks are on the file) on file
handles opened with posix create, and adds support for a few flags
which would have to be ignored otherwise.

6a7f8d36c0 [CIFS] Rename md5 functions to avoid collision with new rt modules
When rt modules were added they (each) included their own md5
with names which collided with the existing names of cifs's md5 functions.

Renaming cifs's md5 modules so we don't collide with them.

0496e02d87 cifs: turn smb_send into a wrapper around smb_sendv
cifs: turn smb_send into a wrapper around smb_sendv

Rename smb_send2 to smb_sendv to make it consistent with kernel naming
conventions for functions that take a vector.

There's no need to have 2 functions to handle sending SMB calls. Turn
smb_send into a wrapper around smb_sendv. This also allows us to
properly mark the socket as needing to be reconnected when there's a
partial send from smb_send.

Also, in practice we always use the address and noblocksnd flag
that's attached to the TCP_Server_Info. There's no need to pass
them in as separate args to smb_sendv.

We used to have rather schizophrenic set of checks for NULL ->i_op even
though it had been eliminated years ago. You'd need to go out of your
way to set it to NULL explicitly _and_ a bunch of code would die on
such inodes anyway. After killing two remaining places that still
did that bogosity, all that crap can go away.

54566b2c15 fs: symlink write_begin allocation context fix
With the write_begin/write_end aops, page_symlink was broken because it
could no longer pass a GFP_NOFS type mask into the point where the
allocations happened. They are done in write_begin, which would always
assume that the filesystem can be entered from reclaim. This bug could
cause filesystem deadlocks.

The funny thing with having a gfp_t mask there is that it doesn't really
allow the caller to arbitrarily tinker with the context in which it can be
called. It couldn't ever be GFP_ATOMIC, for example, because it needs to
take the page lock. The only thing any callers care about is __GFP_FS
anyway, so turn that into a single flag.

Add a new flag for write_begin, AOP_FLAG_NOFS. Filesystems can now act on
this flag in their write_begin function. Change __grab_cache_page to
accept a nofs argument as well, to honour that flag (while we're there,
change the name to grab_cache_page_write_begin which is more instructive
and does away with random leading underscores).

This is really a more flexible way to go in the end anyway -- if a
filesystem happens to want any extra allocations aside from the pagecache
ones in ints write_begin function, it may now use GFP_KERNEL (rather than
GFP_NOFS) for common case allocations (eg. ocfs2_alloc_write_ctxt, for a
random example).

c6fbba0546 [CIFS] make sure that DFS pathnames are properly formed
The paths in a DFS request are supposed to only have a single preceding
backslash, but we are sending them with a double backslash. This is
exposing a bug in Windows where it also sends a path in the response
that has a double backslash.

The existing code that builds the mount option string however expects a
double backslash prefix in a couple of places when it tries to use the
path returned by build_path_from_dentry. Fix compose_mount_options to
expect properly formed DFS paths (single backslash at front).

Also clean up error handling in that function. There was a possible
NULL pointer dereference and situations where a partially built option
string would be returned.

Tested against Samba 3.0.28-ish server and Samba 3.3 and Win2k8.

8570552425 cifs: fix wait_for_response to time out sleeping processes correctly
cifs: fix wait_for_response to time out sleeping processes correctly

The current scheme that CIFS uses to sleep and wait for a response is
not quite what we want. After sending a request, wait_for_response puts
the task to sleep with wait_event(). One of the conditions for
wait_event is a timeout (using time_after()).

The problem with this is that there is no guarantee that the process
will ever be woken back up. If the server stops sending data, then
cifs_demultiplex_thread will leave its response queue sleeping.

I think the only thing that saves us here is the fact that
cifs_dnotify_thread periodically (every 15s) wakes up sleeping processes
on all response_q's that have calls in flight. This makes for
unnecessary wakeups of some processes. It also means large variability
in the timeouts since they're all woken up at once.

Instead of this, put the tasks to sleep with wait_event_timeout. This
makes them wake up on their own if they time out. With this change,
cifs_dnotify_thread should no longer be needed.

I've been testing this in conjunction with some other patches that I'm
working on. It doesn't seem to affect performance at all with with heavy
I/O. Identical iozone -ac runs complete in almost exactly the same time
(<1% difference in times).

Thanks to Wasrshi Nimara for initially pointing this out. Wasrshi, it
would be nice to know whether this patch also helps your testcase.

Windows allows you to deny access to the top of a share, but permit access to

worked if the user specified a prefixpath which put the root of the mount

the prefixpath subdirectory.

13a6e42af8 [CIFS] add mount option to send mandatory rather than advisory locks
Some applications/subsystems require mandatory byte range locks
(as is used for Windows/DOS/OS2 etc). Sending advisory (posix style)
byte range lock requests (instead of mandatory byte range locks) can
lead to problems for these applications (which expect that other
clients be prevented from writing to portions of the file which
they have locked and are updating). This mount option allows
mounting cifs with the new mount option "forcemand" (or
"forcemandatorylock") in order to have the cifs client use mandatory
byte range locks (ie SMB/CIFS/Windows/NTFS style locks) rather than
posix byte range lock requests, even if the server would support
posix byte range lock requests. This has no effect if the server
does not support the CIFS Unix Extensions (since posix style locks
require support for the CIFS Unix Extensions), but for mounts
to Samba servers this can be helpful for Wine and applications
that require mandatory byte range locks.
