3daa7ea650 ALSA: Don't leak in sound/core/oss/pcm_oss.c::snd_pcm_hw_param_near()
snd_pcm_hw_param_near() will leak the memory allocated to 'save' if the
call to snd_pcm_hw_param_max() returns less than zero.
This patch makes sure we never leak.

87a1c8aaa0 ALSA: pcm: remember to always call va_end() on stuff that we va_start()
The Coverity checker spotted that we do not always remember to call
va_end() on 'args' in failure paths in snd_pcm_hw_rule_add().
Here's a patch to fix that up (compile tested only) - it also removes
some annoying trailing whitespace that caught my eye while I was in the
area..

60686aa008 ALSA: Fix SNDCTL_DSP_RESET ioctl for OSS emulation
In OSS emulation, SNDCTL_DSP_RESET ioctl needs the reset of the internal
buffer state in addition to drop of the running streams.  Otherwise the
succeeding access becomes inconsistent.

03cfe6f57d ALSA: support module on-demand loading for seq and timer
If CONFIG_SND_DYNAMIC_MINORS is used, assign /dev/snd/seq and
/dev/snd/timer the usual static minors, and export specific
module aliases to generate udev module on-demand loading
instructions:

The last two lines instruct udev to create device nodes, even
when the modules are not loaded at that time.

As soon as userspace accesses any of these nodes, the in-kernel
module-loader will load the module, and the device can be used.

The header file minor calculation needed to be simplified to
make __stringify() (supports only two indirections) in
the MODULE_ALIAS macro work.

This is part of systemd's effort to get rid of unconditional
module load instructions and needless init scripts.

109fef9edc ALSA: timer: automatically load the high-resolution timer
Increase the default timer limit so that snd-hrtimer.ko can be
automatically loaded when needed, e.g., when used as the default
sequencer timer.  This replaces the check for the obsolete
CONFIG_SND_HPET.

59ff878ffb ALSA: pcm: detect xruns in no-period-wakeup mode
When period wakeups are disabled, successive calls to the pointer update
function do not have a maximum allowed distance, so xruns cannot be
detected with the pointer value only.

To detect xruns, compare the actually elapsed time with the time that
should have theoretically elapsed since the last update.  When the
hardware pointer has wrapped around due to an xrun, the actually elapsed
time will be too big by about hw_ptr_buffer_jiffies.

ab69a4904b ALSA: pcm: support for period wakeup disabling
This patch allows to disable period interrupts which are
not needed when the application relies on a system timer
to wake-up and refill the ring buffer. The behavior of
the driver is left unchanged, and interrupts are only
disabled if the application requests this configuration.
The behavior in case of underruns is slightly different,
instead of being detected during the period interrupts the
underruns are detected when the application calls
snd_pcm_update_avail, which in turns forces a refresh of the
hw pointer and shows the buffer is empty.

More specifically this patch makes a lot of sense when
PulseAudio relies on timer-based scheduling to access audio
devices such as HDAudio or Intel SST. Disabling interrupts
removes two unwanted wake-ups due to period elapsed events
in low-power playback modes. It also simplifies PulseAudio
voice modules used for speech calls.

To quote Lennart "This patch looks very interesting and
desirable. This is something have long been waiting for."

Support for this in hardware drivers is optional.

39aba963d9 driver core: remove CONFIG_SYSFS_DEPRECATED_V2 but keep it for block devices
This patch removes the old CONFIG_SYSFS_DEPRECATED_V2 config option,
but it keeps the logic around to handle block devices in the old manner
as some people like to run new kernel versions on old (pre 2007/2008)
distros.

aa73aec6c3 ALSA: rawmidi: fix oops (use after free) when unloading a driver module
When a driver module is unloaded and the last still open file is a raw
MIDI device, the card and its devices will be actually freed in the
snd_card_file_remove() call when that file is closed.  Afterwards, rmidi
and rmidi->card point into freed memory, so the module pointer is likely
to be garbage.

6038f373a3 llseek: automatically add .llseek fop
All file_operations should get a .llseek operation so we can make
nonseekable_open the default for future file operations without a
.llseek pointer.

The three cases that we can automatically detect are no_llseek, seq_lseek
and default_llseek. For cases where we can we can automatically prove that
the file offset is always ignored, we use noop_llseek, which maintains
the current behavior of not returning an error from a seek.

New drivers should normally not use noop_llseek but instead use no_llseek
and call nonseekable_open at open time.  Existing drivers can be converted
to do the same when the maintainer knows for certain that no user code
relies on calling seek on the device file.

The generated code is often incorrectly indented and right now contains
comments that clarify for each added line why a specific variant was
chosen. In the version that gets submitted upstream, the comments will
be gone and I will manually fix the indentation, because there does not
seem to be a way to do that using coccinelle.

Some amount of new code is currently sitting in linux-next that should get
the same modifications, which I will do at the end of the merge window.

5591bf0722 ALSA: prevent heap corruption in snd_ctl_new()
The snd_ctl_new() function in sound/core/control.c allocates space for a
snd_kcontrol struct by performing arithmetic operations on a
user-provided size without checking for integer overflow.  If a user
provides a large enough size, an overflow will occur, the allocated
chunk will be too small, and a second user-influenced value will be
written repeatedly past the bounds of this chunk.  This code is
reachable by unprivileged users who have permission to open
a /dev/snd/controlC* device (on many distros, this is group "audio") via
the SNDRV_CTL_IOCTL_ELEM_ADD and SNDRV_CTL_IOCTL_ELEM_REPLACE ioctls.

If we pass in a device which is higher than SNDRV_RAWMIDI_DEVICES then
the "next device" should be -1.  This function just returns device + 1.

The error handling in snd_seq_oss_open() has several bad codes that
do dereferecing released pointers and double-free of kmalloc'ed data.
The object dp is release in free_devinfo() that is called via
private_free callback.  The rest shouldn't touch this object any more.

The patch changes delete_port() to call kfree() in any case, and gets
rid of unnecessary calls of destructors in snd_seq_oss_open().

Fixes CVE-2010-3080.

There were some new formats added in commit 15c0cee6c8 "ALSA: pcm:
Define G723 3-bit and 5-bit formats".  That commit increased
SNDRV_PCM_FORMAT_LAST as well.  My concern is that there are a couple
places which do:

I haven't tested these but it looks like if "i" were equal to

56385a12d9 ALSA: emu10k1 - delay the PCM interrupts (add pcm_irq_delay parameter)
With some hardware combinations, the PCM interrupts are acknowledged
before the period boundary from the emu10k1 chip. The midlevel PCM code
gets confused and the playback stream is interrupted.

It seems that the interrupt processing shift by 2 samples is enough
to fix this issue. This default value does not harm other,
non-affected hardware.

82f682514a pm_qos: Get rid of the allocation in pm_qos_add_request()
All current users of pm_qos_add_request() have the ability to supply
the memory required by the pm_qos routines, so make them do this and
eliminate the kmalloc() with pm_qos_add_request().  This has the
double benefit of making the call never fail and allowing it to be
called from atomic context.

5daeba34d2 ALSA: pcm_lib: avoid timing jitter in snd_pcm_read/write()
When using poll() to wait for the next period -- or avail_min samples --
one gets a consistent delay for each system call that is usually just a
little short of the selected period time. However, When using
snd_pcm_read/write(), one gets a jittery delay that alternates between
less than a millisecond and approximately two period times. This is
caused by snd_pcm_lib_{read,write}1() transferring any available samples
to the user's buffer and adjusting the application pointer prior to
sleeping to the end of the current period. When the next period
interrupt occurs, there is then less than avail_min samples remaining to
be transferred in the period, so we end up sleeping until a second
period occurs.

This is solved by using runtime->twake as the number of samples needed
for a wakeup in addition to selecting the proper wait queue to wake in
snd_pcm_update_state(). This requires twake to be non-zero when used
by snd_pcm_lib_{read,write}1() even if avail_min is zero.

b406e6103b ALSA: pcm: fix delta calculation at boundary wraparound
In the cleanup of the hw_ptr update functions in 2.6.33, the calculation
of the delta value was changed to use the modulo operator to protect
against a negative difference due to the pointer wrapping around at the
boundary.

However, the ptr variables are unsigned, so a negative difference would
result in the two complement's value which has no relation to the actual
difference relative to the boundary; the result is typically some value
near LONG_MAX-boundary.  Furthermore, even if the modulo operation would
be done with signed types, the result of a negative dividend could be
negative.

The invalid delta value is then caught by the following checks, but this
means that the pointer update is ignored.

To fix this, use a range check as in the other pointer calculations.

ead4046b2f ALSA: pcm: fix the fix of the runtime->boundary calculation
Commit 7910b4a1db in 2.6.34 changed the
runtime->boundary calculation to make this value a multiple of both the
buffer_size and the period_size, because the latter is assumed by the
runtime->hw_ptr_interrupt calculation.

However, due to the lack of a ioctl that could read the software
parameters before they are set, the kernel requires that alsa-lib
calculates the boundary value, too.  The changed algorithm leads to
a different boundary value used by alsa-lib, which makes, e.g., mplayer
fail to play a 44.1 kHz file because the silence_size parameter is now
invalid; bug report:
<https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/view.php?id=5015>.

This patch reverts the change to the boundary calculation, and instead
fixes the hw_ptr_interrupt calculation to be period-aligned regardless
of the boundary value.

MIPS non-coherent archs need the noncached pgprot in mmap of PCM buffers.
But, since the coherency needs to be checked dynamically via
plat_device_is_coherent(), we need an ugly check dependent on MIPS
in ALSA core code.

This should be cleaned up in MIPS arch side (e.g. creating
dma_mmap_coherent()) in near future.

ed77134bfc PM QOS update
This patch changes the string based list management to a handle base
implementation to help with the hot path use of pm-qos, it also renames
much of the API to use "request" as opposed to "requirement" that was
used in the initial implementation.  I did this because request more
accurately represents what it actually does.

Also, I added a string based ABI for users wanting to use a string
interface.  So if the user writes 0xDDDDDDDD formatted hex it will be
accepted by the interface.  (someone asked me for it and I don't think
it hurts anything.)

This patch updates some documentation input I got from Randy.

We should disable irqs when we take the tu->qlock because it is used in
the irq handler.  The only place that doesn't is
snd_timer_user_ccallback().  Most of the time snd_timer_user_ccallback()
is called with interrupts disabled but the the first ti->ccallback()
call in snd_timer_notify1() has interrupts enabled.

This was caught by lockdep which generates the following message:

5a0e3ad6af include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h
percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being
included when building most .c files.  percpu.h includes slab.h which
in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files
universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies.

percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed.  Prepare for
this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those
headers directly instead of assuming availability.  As this conversion
needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is
used as the basis of conversion.

The script does the followings.

* Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that
  only the necessary includes are there.  ie. if only gfp is used,
  gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h.

* When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include
  blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms
  to its surrounding.  It's put in the include block which contains
  core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered -
  alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there
  doesn't seem to be any matching order.

* If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly
  because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out
  an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the
  file.

The conversion was done in the following steps.

1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly
   over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h
   and ~3000 slab.h inclusions.  The script emitted errors for ~400
   files.

2. Each error was manually checked.  Some didn't need the inclusion,
   some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or
   embedding .c file was more appropriate for others.  This step added
   inclusions to around 150 files.

3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits
   from #2 to make sure no file was left behind.

4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed.
   e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab
   APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually.

5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically
   editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h
   files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell.  Most gfp.h
   inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually
   wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros.  Each
   slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as
   necessary.

6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h.

7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures
   were fixed.  CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my
   distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few
   more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things
   build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq).

   * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config.
   * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig
   * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig
   * ia64 SMP allmodconfig
   * s390 SMP allmodconfig
   * alpha SMP allmodconfig
   * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig

8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as
   a separate patch and serve as bisection point.

Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step
6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch.
If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch
headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of
the specific arch.

before.

ebb812cb8d ALSA: Add support for key reporting via the jack interface
Some devices provide support for detection of a small number of
buttons on their jacks. One common implementation provides a single
button, implemented by shorting the microphone to ground and detected
along with microphone presence detection by detecting varying current
draws on the microphone bias signal.

Provide support for up to three buttons via the jack interface. These
default to reporting BTN_n but an API is provided to allow these to
be remapped to other keys by the machine driver where it knows what
the keys are. More keys can be added with ease if required.

This is only intended to support simple accessory button designs. If
the interface is limiting then either creating a child device for the
accessory or accessing the input device in the jack directly is
recommended.

55c63bd256 ALSA: provide a more useful get_unmapped_area handler for pcm
Shared memory mappings on nommu machines require a get_unmapped_area
file operation that suggests an address for the mapping. The current
implementation returns 0 and thus forces the driver to implement an
mmap handler that fixes up the start and end address of the vma.

This patch returns the address of the dma buffer, so it should work
out of the box for all drivers that use the snd_pcm_runtime->dma_area
pointer.

Addresses for mapping the status and control pages are returned as
well, but to make those work the conditional compilation of
snd_pcm_mmap_{status,control} would need to be revised.

7910b4a1db ALSA: pcm_native - fix runtime->boundary calculation
The code in pcm_lib updating runtime->hw_ptr_interrupt expects
that runtime->boundary is divisible with runtime->period_size.

Fix the runtime->boundary calculation using buffer_size * period_size
as base and find a least common multiple for 32bit platforms when
the expression might overflow.

"It is possible for the status/delay ioctls to be called when the sound
card's pointer register alreay shows a position at the beginning of the
new period, but immediately before the interrupt is actually executed.
(This happens regularly on a SMP machine with mplayer.)  When that
happens, the code thinks that the position must be at least one period
ahead of the current position and drops an entire buffer of data."

Return back the hw_ptr_interrupt variable. The last interrupt pointer
is always computed from the latest hw_ptr instead of tracking it
separately (in this case all hw_ptr checks and modifications might
influence also hw_ptr_interrupt and it is difficult to keep it
consistent).

808c569f36 ALSA: Remove warning message for invalid OSS minor ranges
When a card instance with a higher card number is registered, warning
messages are spewed eventually with stack traces due to the invalid minor
number for OSS device registration.  For example, thinkpad-acpi registers
the card number 29 as default, and you'll see always these messages.
This is rather confusing (and worries users), thus better to return
simply the error code.

Do general cleanup in snd_pcm_update_hw_ptr*() routines and merge them.
The main change is hw_ptr_interrupt variable removal to simplify code
logic. This variable can be computed directly from hw_ptr.

Ensure that updated hw_ptr is not lower than previous one (it was possible
with old code in some obscure situations when interrupt was delayed or
the lowlevel driver returns wrong ring buffer position value).

40962d7c74 ALSA: fix incorrect rounding direction in snd_interval_ratnum()
The direction of rounding is incorrect in the snd_interval_ratnum()
It was detected with following parameters (sb8 driver playing
8kHz stereo file):
 - num is always 1000000
 - requested frequency rate is from 7999 to 7999 (single frequency)

The first loop calculates div_down(num, freq->min) which is 125.
Thus, a frequency range's minimum value is 1000000 / 125 = 8000 Hz.
The second loop calculates div_up(num, freq->max) which is 126
The frequency range's maximum value is 1000000 / 126 = 7936 Hz.
The range maximum is lower than the range minimum so the function
fails due to empty result range.

fcfdebe707 ALSA: hrtimer - Fix lock-up
The timer stop callback can be called from snd_timer_interrupt(), which
is called from the hrtimer callback.  Since hrtimer_cancel() waits for
the callback completion, this eventually results in a lock-up.

This patch fixes the problem by just toggling a flag at stop callback
and call hrtimer_cancel() later.

6b2f3d1f76 vfs: Implement proper O_SYNC semantics
While Linux provided an O_SYNC flag basically since day 1, it took until
Linux 2.4.0-test12pre2 to actually get it implemented for filesystems,
since that day we had generic_osync_around with only minor changes and the
great "For now, when the user asks for O_SYNC, we'll actually give
O_DSYNC" comment.  This patch intends to actually give us real O_SYNC
semantics in addition to the O_DSYNC semantics.  After Jan's O_SYNC
patches which are required before this patch it's actually surprisingly
simple, we just need to figure out when to set the datasync flag to
vfs_fsync_range and when not.

This patch renames the existing O_SYNC flag to O_DSYNC while keeping it's
numerical value to keep binary compatibility, and adds a new real O_SYNC
flag.  To guarantee backwards compatiblity it is defined as expanding to
both the O_DSYNC and the new additional binary flag (__O_SYNC) to make
sure we are backwards-compatible when compiled against the new headers.

This also means that all places that don't care about the differences can
just check O_DSYNC and get the right behaviour for O_SYNC, too - only
places that actuall care need to check __O_SYNC in addition.  Drivers and
network filesystems have been updated in a fail safe way to always do the
full sync magic if O_DSYNC is set.  The few places setting O_SYNC for
lower layers are kept that way for now to stay failsafe.

We enforce that O_DSYNC is set when __O_SYNC is set early in the open path
to make sure we always get these sane options.

Note that parisc really screwed up their headers as they already define a
O_DSYNC that has always been a no-op.  We try to repair it by using it for
the new O_DSYNC and redefinining O_SYNC to send both the traditional
O_SYNC numerical value _and_ the O_DSYNC one.

The substream_opened field is to count the number of opened substreams,
not the number of times that any substreams have been opened.

Furthermore, all substreams being opened does not imply that the next
open would fail, due to the possibility of O_APPEND.  With this wrong
check, opening a substream multiple times would succeed only if the
device had more unopened substreams.

Commit 9a1b64caac in 2.6.30 broke the
error handling code in rawmidi_open_priv().

If only the output substream of a RawMIDI device has been opened and
if this device is then opened with O_RDWR | O_APPEND and if the
initialization of the input substream fails (either because of low
memory or because the device driver's open callback fails), then the
runtime structure of the already open output substream will be freed
and all following writes through the first handle will cause
snd_rawmidi_write() to use the NULL runtime pointer.

Commit 9a1b64caac in 2.6.30 dropped the
check that a substream must already have been opened with O_APPEND to be
able to open it a second time.

This would make it possible for a substream to be switched to append
mode, which would mean that non-atomic writes would fail unexpectedly.

8579d2d777 sound: rawmidi: fix double init when opening MIDI device with O_APPEND
Commit 9a1b64caac in 2.6.30 moved the
substream initialization code to where it would be executed every time
the substream is opened.

This had the consequence that any further opening would drop and leak
the data in the existing buffer, and that the device driver's open
callback would be called multiple times, unexpectedly.

25d27eded1 control: use reference-counted pid
Instead of storing the PID number, take a reference to the task's pid
structure.  This protects against duplicates due to PID overflows, and
using pid_vnr() ensures that the PID returned by snd_ctl_elem_info() is
correct as seen from the current namespace.

To avoid confusion in control names for the standard analog PC Beep generator
using a small Internal PC Speaker, rename all related "PC Speaker" and "PC
Beep" controls to "Beep" only. This name is more universal and can be also
used on more platforms without confusion.

Introduce also "Internal Speaker" in ControlNames.txt for systems with
full-featured build-in internal speaker.

8066e51ae7 ALSA: snd_dma_pointer workaround for chipsets with buggy DMA
The chipsets with the isa_dma_bridge_buggy set do not stop DMA during
DMA counter reads. The DMA counter is read in two 8-bit read steps
on x86 platform. Sometimes, such reads happen during higher byte
change so the lower byte is already decremented (rolled over) but
the higher byte is not. It introduces an error that position is
moved 256 bytes ahead of the true position. Thus, the next DMA
position read can return a lower value then the previous read.
If the DMA position is decreased (reversed) the ALSA subsystem is
tricked into the playback underrun error and resets the playback.
It results in a "pop" during a playback.

Work around the issue by reading the counter twice and choosing a higher
value.

Add debug module option to snd core.
This controls the debug print level.  When CONFIG_SND_DEBUG_VERBOSE
is set, you can suppress the debug messages by giving or changing this
parameter to a lower value.  debug=0 means no debug messsages.
As default, it's set to the verbose level 2.

Since this option can be changed dynamically via sysfs file, you can
suppress the verbose debug messages on the fly, which wasn't possible
before.

When modules are built with M= option, they pass long file paths to
__FILE__.  This results in ugly outputs of snd_print*() when
CONFIG_SND_VERBOSE_PRINTK is set.

This patch adds a check of the path and strips the leading path dirs
if the file name is an absolute path to improve the readability of logs.

snd_interval_list() expected a sorted list but did not document this, so
there are drivers that give it an unsorted list.  To fix this, change
the algorithm to work with any list.

This fixes the "Slave PCM not usable" error with USB devices that have
multiple alternate settings with sample rates in decreasing order, such
as the Philips Askey VC010 WebCam.

4cdc115fd3 ALSA: pcm - Fix drain behavior in non-blocking mode
The current PCM core has the following problems regarding PCM draining
in non-blocking mode:

- the current f_flags isn't checked in snd_pcm_drain(), thus changing
  the mode dynamically via snd_pcm_nonblock() after open doesn't work.
- calling drain in non-blocking mode just return -EAGAIN error, but
  doesn't provide any way to sync with draining.

This patch fixes these issues.
- check file->f_flags in snd_pcm_drain() properly
- when O_NONBLOCK is set, PCM core sets the stream(s) to DRAIN state
  but quits ioctl immediately without waiting the whole drain; the
  caller can sync the drain manually via poll()

f217ac59b6 sound: snd_ctl_remove_unlocked_id: simplify user control counting
Move the decrementing of the user controls counter from
snd_ctl_elem_remove to snd_ctl_remove_unlocked_id; this saves the
separate locking of the controls semaphore, and therefore removes
a harmless race.

Since the purpose of the function is to operate on user controls (the
control being unlocked is just a prerequisite), rename it to
snd_ctl_remove_user_ctl.

51840409b6 ALSA: pcm - Tell user that stream to be rewound is suspended
Return STRPIPE instead of EBADF when userspace attempts to rewind
of forward a stream that was suspended in meanwhile, so that it
can be recovered by snd_pcm_recover().

This was causing Pulseaudio to unload the ALSA sink module under a race
condition when it attempted to rewind the stream right after resume from
suspend, before writing to the stream which would cause it to revive the
stream otherwise. Tested to work with Pulseaudio patched to attempt to
snd_pcm_recover() upon receiving an error from snd_pcm_rewind().

Added the logging functionality to xrun_debug to record the hwptr
updates via snd_pcm_update_hw_ptr() and snd_pcm_update_hwptr_interrupt(),
corresponding to 16 and 8, respectively.

For example,
	# echo 9 > /proc/asound/card0/pcm0p/xrun_debug
will record the position and other parameters at each period interrupt
together with the normal XRUN debugging.

79452f0a28 ALSA: pcm - Fix regressions with VMware
VMware tends to report PCM positions and period updates at utterly
wrong timing.  This screws up the recent PCM core code that tries
to correct the position based on the irq timing.

Now, when a backward irq position is detected, skip the update
instead of rebasing.  (This is almost the old behavior before
2.6.30.)

Sending a MIDI reset message when closing a port is wrong because we
only want to shut the device up, not to reset all settings.
Furthermore, many devices ignore this message.

on non-coherent architectures because a tracking record could be

6423f9ea80 sound: seq_midi_event: fix decoding of (N)RPN events
When decoding (N)RPN sequencer events into raw MIDI commands, the
extra_decode_xrpn() function had accidentally swapped the MSB and LSB
controller values of both the parameter number and the data value.

085f306541 ALSA: Add new TLV types for dBwith min/max
Add new types for TLV dB scale specified with min/max values instead
of min/step since the resolution can't match always with the one
a device provides.  For example, usb audio devices give 1/256 dB
resolution while ALSA TLV is based on 1/100 dB resolution.
The new min/max types have less problems because the possible
rounding error happens only at min/max.

1f3fff7bda ALSA: use card device as parent for jack input-devices
This moves the jack devices from the PCI device into the ALSA card device, which
makes it easier for userspace to find all devices belonging to a specific card
while granting access to logged-in users.

Jack input devices from sound cards can now simply be matched with udev by doing:

Move locking outside snd_card_set_id_internal() function and rename it
to snd_card_set_id_no_lock() for better function description.

User defined id is just copied to card structure at allocation time.
The real unique id procedure is called in snd_card_register() to
ensure real atomicity.

872c78202c ALSA: Fix double locking of card list in snd_card_register()
The introduction of snd_card_set_id() added a lock on the card list
to the old choose_default_id() function when using it to implement
the new API call. This lock is needed to allow us to walk the list
and check to see if our new name is a duplicate. Unfortunately this
causes a lockup when called from snd_card_register() (in cases
where no ID is supplied for the card) since the card list is already
locked there.

Fix this fairly hideously by factoring out the implementation and
using a flag to indicate if the lock should be held. A better fix
would probably be to refactor snd_card_register() to move the
_set_id() outside the locking region but I can't immediately see
anything I can convince myself is safe.

10a8ebbb08 ALSA: Core - add snd_card_set_id() function
Introduce snd_card_set_id() function to allow lowlevel drivers to set
default identification name for card slot. The function checks also
for identification name collisions and tries to create unique name.

Also, the snd_card_create() function is simplified, because this new
function is used. As bonus, proper name collision checks are evaluated
at the card create time.

8bea869c5e ALSA: PCM midlevel: improve fifo_size handling
Move the fifo_size assignment to hw->ioctl callback to allow lowlevel
drivers overwrite the default behaviour.

fifo_size is in frames not bytes as specified in asound.h and alsa-lib's
documentation, but most hardware have fixed byte based FIFOs. Introduce
internal SNDRV_PCM_INFO_FIFO_IN_FRAMES.

c87d973200 ALSA: Enable PCM hw_ptr_jiffies check only in xrun_debug mode
The PCM hw_ptr jiffies check results sometimes in problems when a
hardware doesn't give smooth hw_ptr updates.  So far, au88x0 and some
other drivers appear not working due to this strict check.
However, this check is a nice debug tool, and the capability should be
still kept.

Hence, we disable this check now as default unless the user enables it
by setting the xrun_debug mode to the specific stream via a proc file.

The hw_ptr_jiffies has to be reset properly to avoid the invalid
check of jiffies delta in snd_pcm_update_hw_ptr*() functions.
Especailly this patch fixes the bogus jiffies check after the puase
and resume.

3e5b50165f ALSA: pcm core - Avoid jiffies check for devices with BATCH flag
The hardware devices with SNDRV_PCM_INFO_BATCH flag can't give the
precise current position.  And such hardwares have often big FIFO
in addition to the ring buffer, and it screws up the jiffies check
in pcm_lib.c.

This patch adds a simple check of info flag so that the driver skips
the jiffies check in snd_pcm_period_elapsed() when BATCH flag is set.
